24 Weeks

TWIN A:

TWIN B: ( notice Twin A's foot right above B's nose. ) If you're not sure what you're looking at- this is each of their profiles. They moved during the entire ultrasound. The tech starting laughing and couldn't believe how they were beating each other up! They punched and kicked each other during the whole "study". They both way 1 lb and 10 oz. Wow! Can't believe they are almost 2 lbs! I gained a whopping 9 lbs in one month.

My next appointment is at 27 weeks -which is three weeks away. They will do another ultrasound to make sure that they are close to the same weight. After my next appointment, I will start going every two weeks until their birthday!

DVD Review:

Erin O'Brien's Fitness Fix is awesome! Different from Denise Austin's Fit and Firm pregnancy because there is more Pilate's and squats, so I will probably alternate and do both. I know that I just gained nine pounds in a month, but I still feel somewhat in shape.

Eating For Three

I will have to be honest, one of my first thoughts after finding out that I was having twins was that - "I'm about to get HUGE!! " I googled images of pregnant women with multiples and there are some pretty scary pics out there. Also, I read blogs that talked about how miserable it was to carry more than one baby and it scared the crap out of me.

Then... I started to think about the fact that I will have two babies to hold at the end of this journey and four sweet cheeks to kiss at night. So, I'm sure that a few months of pain, torture, weight gain, and ALL of the battle scars that will effect me afterward will be well worth it! God has blessed us with this gift of "two", and we will use His love and guidance to get through whatever lies ahead.

So, back to the being scared that I would turn into a hippo part....

First of all, I knew that I had to keep my life as normal as possible for as long as I could, so I kept up my normal workouts during my first trimester and ate as normally as I could due to nausea- on those days I pushed food down my throat. At first I didn't gain much weight, so then I tried to add as much protein as I could in a day (being that with twins you need a whopping 25 grams extra per day).

Some things that I ate in my first trimester to help me gain a little weight: Carnation Instant Breakfast, Boost, Cliff Bars, Luna Bars, Packs of Peanut Butter and Crackers, Breakfast packs of trail mix. I'm not going to lie.... as the first ten pounds moved up on the scale I started to worry....but knew that I had to gain weight for healthy babies. Even though I was trying to gain weight I kept up my regular excercise routine until around week 20. I also tried to do a lot of stretching. This is about the time that I started to "rock" a pretty good basketball for a baby bump. I knew that I probably shouldn't be jumping around so much, so I changed to Denise Austin's Fit and Firm Pregnancy. This is a very low impact cardio and toning work out. Even if you haven't worked out much before, I think that it's a great workout to do during pregnancy. Also, I just got the DVD- Prenatal Fitness Fix with Erin O'Brien. Can't wait to try it out!

I'm up about 15-20 pounds of the 35-45 pounds that Dr. Oz recommends. Over the past four weeks, I have tried to eat a healthy diet but have definetley gained my sweet tooth back and have had some major cravings.

My regular diet consists of : Breakfast-
English Muffin with honey, scrambled eggs, fruit and a large glass of ice water,
or Cereal with fruit, or Cliff Bar. Snack- Fruit or Peanut Butter and Crackers. Lunch-
Grilled Cheese with crackers or chips and some carrots or Peanut Butter and Jelly with crackers or chips and some carrots. Or, maybe go out to lunch with Lynn. :) Drinks- Tea, Diet Root Beer (no caffeine in RB), or Crystal Light (getting in H2O). Also, my Dr. told me that it was fine to have caffeine in moderation. So, I have a Diet Coke or Coffee occaisonally. Snacks -see above (I have a couple snacks throughout the afternoon. Dinner- Varies. After Dinner- berries with splenda and cool whip or ice cream or Blue Bell All Natural Fruit Bars- Yummo!
(regular diet adding around 300-500 calories a day for twins)

I think as long as you get enough calories in a day and drink plenty of water (I read that dehydration was a large part of preterm labor), you are doing your job without gaining too much weight. Also, I know that sodium intake is a huge problem, so I have been (sort of) trying to cut that down as much as possible. I have tried to stay away from fried foods, fast food, and too much sugar- which is really hard for me).

Everyone has asked me about cravings, and well yes, I crave all kinds of different things, partly because I'm hungry ALL of the time. One wierd craving has been twizzlers. When I was sick at the beginning, I ate them all of the time- probably not a good thing, but it got me through that horrible part of pregnancy.

However, today..... I'm dreaming of my Granny's Fried Peach Pies.... :)

Have a delicious day!

22 Weeks

22 Week Update:

Well I could start by complaining about my back hurting, legs aching, sleep deprivation, and much more...... but I will wait til I'm 32 weeks (instead of 22 weeks) to start all of that. I have a long way to go, so I can't wimp out now.

Belly Update:
On a sweeter note, I have been feeling a lot of movement lately. I can't help but laugh when I feel thumping around inside. By week 22, I read that they can hear most things that go on outside of the womb. They can even be woken up by loud noises. I go for another check-up in two more weeks, and I will have another ultrasound! We can't wait to see their little profiles.

We are moving back into our renovated house this weekend! Thank Heavens for my sweet Mother-In-Law who has given us a home and hot food every night!! We are so thankful!

GROWING

Well, I can definitely tell that things are getting more difficult. Friday night we had a date night to Blue Fin and then to the Michael Buble concert. Not thinking about the 100 degree weather and the amount of walking that we would be doing, I wore heels....which was a huge mistake. I didn't consider the stairs at the Forum plus a long walk from our parking garage. Good thing that our dinner was awesome(we were joined by some of our favorite friends) and the concert was great!
Lynn decided that we would be better off getting a carriage to taxi us back to our car. Love him!

(swollen feet)

We should be wrapping up our house renovation this week! Can't wait to share before and after pics!
Here is the latest Baby Bump Pic:
