A Few Good Habits

So, I just figured out why I would rather be beaten and tortured than go to the grocery story. It's because I make it a two hour process just to do a weekly chore that most people don't think too much about. I make it a major task.... maybe this is why is why our cabinets looked so bare this morning.

As Lynn walked out the door for work this morning.... he said, "Do you think you could go to the grocery store today?" Before I sat down to make a list, I looked in the cabinet and laughed out loud. It doesn't usually get this bad before I go. I have just gotten off of my routine Sunday visit to the store this summer. Anyways... I started thinking...... I have LOTS of bad habits, don't get me wrong, but I have a few that I really don't want to change (even after the babies). When I go to the grocery store, I completely clean out my fridge and cabinets. I go as far as taking everything out and cleaning it with Clorox making sure that all of the leftovers and produce from the week before are trashed. Week old food completely grosses me out. Then, when I get home, I prep my produce and put it in clear storage containers. Example, I wash my strawberries, cut off the leaves, and slice up. It's much easier to grab and eat and it's the only way to get my husband to eat some fruit or veggies. If strawberries are left in the plastic container with the leaves- he won't touch them and they most often end up rotting. Oh and the same goes for watermelon and grapes. I guess most people do this chore, but I know that if I'm in a hurry or lazy, this extra step gets left out and I have rotten produce.

This makes me think:

I really can't remember if I got this good habit from my mother or maybe off the Food Network channel. However, I KNOW I didn't get cutting up a watermelon in small pieces and storing it from my mother.

OH NO.... This is not the way I grew up eating watermelon.

After a long hot summer day....... around the time the sun was going down.....my mother would grab the watermelon and tell me to grab the spoons and salt shaker. The melon was cut into four pieces, and we would eat the melon out on the patio- just in time to catch lighting bugs and listen to the locus sing. That's really my favorite way to eat watermelon.

Giving It Your Best

Anybody else need a little motivation......

My summer has come to an end. Schools starts Monday and I need a little motivation considering that I'm uber pregnant, can't sleep, and it's hotter than hades outside.

Expectant Parents

This past weekend Lynn and I took the "Expectant Parents" class at the hospital. I am sooo glad that we decided to go. The class goes over the basic info that you need to know for the first few weeks of parenting. I'm sure that we would have figured it out if we decided not to go to the class, but I really think that it prepared us for what is about to happen......

lots of diapers.....
With us having twins, it is estimated that we will go through 720 diapers in the first month. YIKES! We will be diaper changing machines. UUUMMM and I haven't changed a diaper in a really long time, so it was good for me to practice. And I must say.... Lynn did a pretty impressive job on the diaper changing and swaddling.

Oh ....and Lynn was also the volunteer to try on the "pregnant suit". It was supposed to simulate the weight of pregnancy. This was soooo funny!

Lynn was such a great sport over the weekend! He joined me for another Dr.'s appointment, helped me finish the baby registry, finished painting the cribs, attended a three hour expectant parenting class ........ and never complained one time. I'm very grateful!

Nursery In The Making

Some of the fabrics that I'm using in the nursery:

I'm really not a huge fan of the color brown, so it will be used sparingly. I would rather play it off like a dark bronze. So the nursery will be mostly pinks and creams. We just had our house painted during our renovation, so we are not going to paint the nursery. It's just going to have to blend somehow.... Plus the room is tiny, so I'm planning on going "all-out" on their next bedrooms- which will be used for a longer period of time.

Also, my parents bought us a glider that just arrived at my door today! Who would have ever thought getting a rocking chair would be so exciting!

Salsa!

When I left my parents last weekend, they gave me some veggies from their garden. I'm not a huge fan of raw tomatoes, but I love salsa! So, I whipped up some homemade salsa that turned out pretty good!

I started off with four very ripe tomatoes. I roughly chopped them and put them in my Cuisinart chopper.

Then, I added a roughly chopped purple onion and half a bunch of chopped cilantro.

Last, added the juice from one lime, 1 jalapeno, 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.

Chopped it up and let it sit for a few hours in the fridge.

Bon Appetit!

26 Weeks

So, I feel like I have made some progress...... 26 Weeks! Since twins will be considered full term at 38 weeks, I only have around 12 weeks left! This will be the hardest yet- due to the size of my belly. Check it out:

The nursery is underway! We are using Jenny Lind cribs. Lynn is painting them the same color as our trim Accessible Beige by Sherwin Williams.

Sending fabric to the seamstress this week to get started on the crib bedding!

Favorite Things - Preggo Edition

Some of my favorite things since I have been pregnant:

Palmer's Cocoa Butter- Stretch Mark Lotion

My mom bought me a bottle of this as soon as she found out that I was pregnant. She warned me to stay lathered in it at all times. She was right! I'm 27 weeks and my stomach doesn't have many marks yet. I'm crossing my fingers!!

Target has these great maternity t's that ruche on the sides. They are very comfortable and look a lot better than my husband's t-shirts- a little more flattering. They are extra long for a growing belly.

I wear the Old Navy maternity tank tops under everything. For some reason maternity tops/dresses are v-neck and low. Not a good look for overflowing bussoms.

My favorite workout DVD's:

(It just makes you feel sooooo much better to get in a little cardio and stretching.)

Crystal Light On The Go- Great way to fit in a lot of water!

Body Pillow- This is a must if you want to sleep! I am a stomach sleeper so my sleeping went to crap as soon as I started growing. I had to get a body pillow and teach myself a new way to sleep.

Mama Spanx

I am a believer in Spanx pregnant or not pregnant- just because they make clothing look so much better. However, I have actually been wearing these under everything due to varicose veins. I'm using these in place of compression hose. There is NO WAY I'm putting on compression hose in July! Way too to hot for that!

Karen Neuberger Sleepshirt:

First of all, I'm a nightgown kind of person anyway. I can't stand to have pants or shorts on my legs while I sleep. My sister bought me this particular brand and it is soooo soft! It doesn't cling to your body like some materials.

You Having A Baby- Pretty much tells you everything you need to know about your body going through pregnancy.

I have also enjoyed :

What To Expect When You're Expecting App on my iphone.

The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy by: Vicky Iovine (so funny!)

Oh and run... don't walk ... and get yourself sized for new bras. You will need them! :)

A Heavy Heart

This has been one of the toughest weeks that I have ever had to endure. I lost my uncle after a tragic accident at the lake. He wasn't just any uncle. I think my sister and other cousins would agree that he was one of the best. He has always been very involved in our lives. I only wish that I could have told him how much I loved him, and how grateful I am for the impact he made in my life.

4th of July Fireworks- He always made sure that we had the best seats!
